Simon Jenkins

Simon Jenkins wrote the pub column for the Yorkshire Evening Post between 1992 and 2020, despite having left full-time journalism to join the University of Leeds in 2006. He has written for a host of publications in the UK and overseas, and has contributed to broadcast discussions on beer and brewing, including on BBC Radio 4’s Food Programme.

The second edition of his book the Yorkshire Beer Bible was published in 2019 and is a guide to all the breweries of the county. He has also written two editions of the Great Leeds Pub Crawl, a lively informative ramble around the best pubs in the city.

Among numerous awards Simon has received from the British Guild of Beer Writers, he achieved their highest accolade, British Beer Writer of the Year, in 2010.

But despite all this, he is generally fairly sober.

Author of the Yorkshire Beer Bible

amazon book sizeIn this newly-updated comprehensive guide to Yorkshire brewing, renowned beer writer Simon Jenkins trawls the length and breadth of Britain’s biggest (and best) county seeking out the brewers old and new, large and small, which between them have created an astonishing resurgent beer scene.

From fiercely traditional brewers producing time-honoured beers in slate Yorkshire squares, to the new-wave craft brewers embracing a dizzying variety of imported hops; from the ancient brewer hemmed in by a tight knot of cobbled streets to the brewery set up in a care home to draw attention to life-limiting genetic conditions – Simon found them all.

This entertaining journey around the county lists every brewer Simon could find – more than 200 – and features lots of his favourite beers and some of the best places to drink them.

Copies of Simon’s book will be available for purchase and personal dedication at all It’s the Beer Talking events – the perfect gift for any beer drinker.
