Leeds is an amazing city. Allow us to take you on a circular walk through the city centre, where you can learn a little about its history and its people and the key events which have shaped its development. Oh, and we’ll have a few beers too.
Our well-trodden route starts in the shadow of the Black Prince in City Square and takes in the Town Hall, the River Aire, the Leeds-Liverpool canal, the Dark Arches and Leeds Bridge.
You’ll learn how our city is still shaped by its 13th century geography, how it was the scene of audacious industrial espionage, the key role it played in the birth of world cinema – and about an extraordinary human auction, where people were sold to the highest bidder, a little over a century ago.
We visit a selection of pubs along the way, to sample some of the best beers our city has to offer and learn something about how brewing and drinking have played their part in Leeds’s life for centuries.
The tours are led by author and journalist Simon Jenkins, for 30 years the face behind the YEP’s popular beer and pub column Taverner – and a former British Beer Writer of the Year. He is joined by fellow journalist Nicky Massen, previously the head of PR at Tetley Brewery.
This standard tour takes around three hours, but we can tailor the route to suit your requirements if you are booking a private bespoke walking tour. So whether you fancy coming on your own, as a couple, or in a larger group, please contact us so we can build the perfect walking and drinking tour for you.
Tickets, priced £20, are strictly limited, so please book online, but we will accept payment on the day, if places are still available. The cost does not include beer – participants are free to choose their drinks at each of our pub stops.
Please note that all attendees must be at least 18 years of age and have a basic level of fitness.
